THE LIGHTHORSEMEN Rare AUSTRALIAN Movie Press Sheet

Original Country of Origin Australian Press sheet, single page, printed one side only, fine – very fine condition.

Australian Press sheets provide important historical information on movies, particularly for those that were filmed in Australia. They often comprised a single page sometimes printed on both sides, sometimes not and occasionally four or more pages. They would generally include a synopsis of the film and cast details plus information about posters and newspaper advertising. They have been neglected over the years and were usually thrown away after use but it would be good to see an historical archive of all Australian press sheets.

The Lighthorsemen (1987)

Directed by Simon Wincer.

With Gary Sweet, Sigrid Thornton, Tony Bonner, Anthony Andrews, Bill Kerr, John Walton, Peter Phelps, Jon Blake

The Lighthorsemen is a 1987 Australian feature film about the men of a World War I light horse unit involved in Sinai and Palestine Campaign's 1917 Battle of Beersheeba. The film is based on a true story and most of the characters in the film were based on real people.
It follows in the wake of other Australian New Wave war films such as Breaker Morant, Gallipoli, and the 5-part TV series Anzacs. Recurring themes of these films include the Australian identity, such as mateship and larrikinism, the loss of innocence in war, and also the continued coming of age of the Australian nation and its soldiers.
