THE EARL OF CHICAGO Long Daybill Movie poster 1940 Robert Montgomery

 

Original Australian hand litho long daybill approximately 15" x 40" , folded as issued, fair – good condition, edge wear with edge tears and chips, the poster was torn and separated extending through the Robert Montgomery's face and repaired with white tape on the back. Other tears are reinforced on the back with archival tape and a couple of pieces of white paper (see enlarged photo). Despite the defects, the poster displays very well as is and could easily be linen backed.
 
"Long" daybills were produced in Australia until 1941 when they were replaced by the more familiar smaller format.

Illinois/England alcohol liquor big business crime melodrama ("Can a Lord of England be a Czar of the underworld?"; "He likes silk stockings!"; an odd story of a Prohibition era gangster who frames his own lawyer and gets him sent to jail for his own crimes; when the lawyer is released, he has been disbarred, and he goes to work for the gangster, running his empire, but wanting revenge, and when the gangster finds out he is the heir to an English title, he gets his chance.
