Henry Winkler is an American actor, comedian, producer, and author, best known for his role as Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli on the TV sitcom “Happy Days” (1974-1984). He was born on October 30, 1945, in Manhattan, New York City, to German-Jewish immigrant parents.

Winkler attended the McBurney School in Manhattan and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emerson College in Boston. He also studied drama at the Yale School of Drama.

In the early 1970s, Winkler began his acting career with small roles in various television shows and films. His breakthrough came in 1974 when he was cast as “Fonzie” on “Happy Days.” The character, known for his leather jacket, motorcycles, and catchphrase “Ayyy!”, quickly became a cultural icon and made Winkler a household name.

After “Happy Days” ended, Winkler continued to work in television and film, both in front of and behind the camera. He produced and starred in the TV series “MacGyver” (1985-1992) and also played supporting roles in films like “The Waterboy” (1998) and “Click” (2006).

In addition to his acting work, Winkler is also a successful author. He has written a series of children’s books about a boy with learning challenges called “Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever,” which is based on his own experiences growing up with dyslexia. He has also written several adult novels, including “I’ve Never Met an Idiot on the River” and “Alien Superstar.”

Throughout his career, Winkler has won several awards for his work, including two Golden Globe Awards for his role on “Happy Days” and an Emmy Award for his role on the TV series “Barry” (2018-2019). He has also been inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
